37th Annual St Mary’s Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament

If any of our brother Knights were praying for the rain to pass us by, their prayers were certainly answered.

The 37th annual St Mary’s Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament kicked off bright and early Saturday, June 22nd despite a torrential downpour just an hour before.

With almost exactly 72 golfers taking to the links at the Oshawa Airport Golf Club, it was a virtual sell-out. It was also the first ever round of golf for Garrett Wood, son of Grand Knight Colum Wood.

After their rounds, everyone retired to the hall at St Mary’s for a steak lunch and a few well-earned beverages. Special thanks to Roy Druce and Paul Power for organizing such an incredible event, the proceeds of which will be used right here in the Durham Region to support those in need. Thanks also to brother’s Nino Stano and Joe Custoza on the grille and the many other volunteers. Without them, these events would not be possible.

Thanks also goes out to the other local councils who supported the event, including St Joseph the Worker Council, Notre Dame Council, St Gertrude’s Council and St Hedwig’s Council.

There were even some fantastic prizes including a Golf Town gift certificate, a set of new tires and a gift basket from Subaru Canada that included a package of Pro V1 balls! A big thank you to Joe Miniaci for his work in collecting so many sponsors and prizes.

Based on the incredible success, we couldn’t let the rest of this golf season slip by without getting the gang back together. So mark your calendars for September 14th for the first ever bi-annual St Mary’s Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament! (That’s right, we’re doing it all again in the Fall!) See you then!
